A memorable, exciting experience..

New York compared to any shopping experience in the UK is exciting, adventurous and most importantly an experience you will never forget. The scenery is magnificent, the stores are inviting and eye-catching and the products are endless. Whether you focus on the small boutiques and vintage stores in Soho or the large designer branches on 5th Ave there is always something for everyone. However in the UK, the shopping and retail experience feels slightly downgraded, with busy and hectic streets, manic stores with rushed people constantly getting in your way and shop assistants that are unknowledgeable and helpless. Our experience here is on a different level due to the hectic lives of British shoppers compared to the lives of New Yorkers. I have collated a summary of differences from the UK shopping and retail market compared to the US shopping market.

In the US, brands seem to portray their style and essence through great concepts within the store and through advertising around the major cities. They are exciting and unforgettable compared to anything in the UK. The US brands create something original that makes every shopper excited to be shopping in that particular store. For example I want to show you the difference in UK carrier bags to US carrier bags. The carrier bags from New York  are creative and something you will want to use over and over again. The cardboard and satin handles makes it feel exclusive and exciting and it feels as if the consumer was given a free bag because they are so decorative. However the UK is very different, the plastic and breakable bags are boring, bleak and minimal. They do not express the brands essence nor act as an extra item that is given to the consumer. Here I have illustrated the difference.

Store environments in the US are also very different to those in the UK. The brands essence in the US are reflected through the in-store decor and visual displays. Also they had many open spaces and seating areas to enhance a pleasant and relaxed shopping experience. However many UK stores feel cramped and uninviting due to the clear mess of clothes, the lack of space around mannequins and clothing rails and the general lack of a welcoming and friendly atmosphere around many stores. Here are some images of the difference from UK stores to stores in NY.
